Q: Can I learn guitar if I’ve never studied music theory? I can’t read music!

A: Of course. No prior knowledge is required. If you have a fear of those funny musical dots and sticks on the page we have ways around that too.

Q: How long will it take before I can play guitar?

A: This varies from student to student and depends on individual ability, motivation and discipline. Our goal is to get you playing music as soon as possible. Most of our students are able to play a song within the first month. From there, the sky is the limit.

Q: How much should I practice?

A: This varies from person to person. Consistency is far more important than quantity. If you can only practice 15 minutes a day, every day of the week, then do so. Regular practice is far more effective than practicing 2 to 3 hours once a week.

Q: What is the ideal age for children to start guitar?

A: For best results we recommend that children wishing to play guitar start at 9 or 10 years old. In our experience most younger students struggle both physically and conceptually with the guitar, but could start with another instrument.

Q: Where can I buy musical instruments and books?

A: There are many retailers in the greater Johanesburg area but we personally recommend Lovemore Music or TOMS as preferred retailers.
